Theresa Crater

I’m Theresa Crater, a bestselling and award-winning author of mysteries, fantasy, archaeological thrillers, and stories where the ordinary world has a tendency to slip sideways into the magical.

I grew up in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, during the civil rights movement, which probably helped convince me early on that the world can change—and that almost anything is possible. I went on to earn a Ph.D. in English literature, teach meditation, explore spiritual traditions from around the world, visit ancient temples and sacred sites, study in a Western mystery school, and even work with ancient crystal skulls. In other words, I’ve spent a good part of my life investigating things that allegedly sensible people might leave alone.

All of that finds its way into my fiction: ancient mysteries, hidden wisdom, otherworldly forces, strong women, a little danger, and usually at least one character who refuses to behave.

I live in Boulder County, Colorado, with my very own Egyptologist, Stephen Mehler, and our feline overlord, Cleopatra.

If you suspect there may be a little more magic, mystery, and wonder in the world than most people realize, you’ll fit right in.
